i just completed the art opening and painting for my exhibit at Trenton Social in trenton, nj. if you’re in the area, check it out. the show is called “obscura” and the pieces reflect that sentiment :)
all the work is for sale and it will be up through may 3rd! super excited about this opportunity.
i was also able to set up a table of my ware from opiate adornments at the show and even sold a couple hair clips :)
i’m not back to creating new pieces with new materials, and am even making my own flowers. on top of that, i have a new supplier for feathers so everything is cruelty free. feathers are either collected from natural molting processes or harvested from birds used for food (in the case of turkey feathers, for example). though i’m a vegetarian and wouldn’t eat those foul fowl, i do think it’s important to use every part of the animal if you’re going to farm it for food.
so none of my new feathered creations made in 2012 use any feathers that didn’t come from a reputable source. no feather-farms here :) just regular farms and natural shedding! i’m pretty excited about that if you can’t tell :) some of my feathers (any guinea fowl feathers and macaw feathers for example) were already cruelty free, but others were purchased from large retailers where i didn’t know the source. so no more of that.
i want you to feel good about wearing my products, on every level :)
hi all! settling well at the new homestead :) i also started collecting new supplies…some findings but also some synthetic silks and tulle to fancy up my hair accessories. i’m going to start making my own flowers for those :)
in the meantime i’ve also started a new project that is near and dear to me. it is basically a continuation of my university studies, which focused on cultural anthropology in the vein of body modification. my thesis was specific to women and tattooing and i have posted an excerpt of this as my kickoff for my anthropology of body modification blog.
if you’re looking for a blog to look at tattoos and such, this isn’t the one. if you’re looking to nerd out and learn about body modification and how our various cultures handle it…then it is definitely the place! please check it out, i would love to know what you think :) http://anthrified.blogspot.com
new year, new directions. i’ve been working two jobs this past year and haven’t had time to work on my crafting and art. let alone updating this..oops!
in 10 days i’ll be settling into a new place, living outside philly and working more closely with my day job. i’ll then be going through my supplies and inventory and updating opioid.etsy.com and catching up on designs i haven’t been able to finish.
in the meantime i’ve also been on hiatus from modeling and shooting, but i have just started getting into event photography for dance parties. so perhaps i will shoot again this year :) it’s been a while. i may also have a number of prints for sale from a cafe show i did years ago (finding all kinds of things as i pack!)
theres new music on the horizon with a new project, and i may be revisiting my solo work now that i’ve changed directions.
so i have high hopes for this year and hopefully i will be able to keep this updated enough that people find it useful in terms of news for any of the above endeavors :)
if not, there’s also facebook.com/the.opioid and facebook.com/opiateadornments
be well!
